New NSSF Video Emphasizes Safety At Indoor Shooting Ranges
NEWTOWN, Conn. (3/7/2011) – For new and inexperienced shooters, a trip to an indoor shooting range can be intimidating because no one wants to run afoul of range safety rules or showing courtesy to fellow target shooters.
The National Shooting Sports Foundation, trade association for the firearms and ammunition industry, advises those target shooters to relax and watch its new video, “Introduction to Range Safety and Etiquette.” All shooters will better understand what’s expected of them at indoor ranges after viewing the video and, as a result, will be more comfortable the next time they head to their favorite shooting facility.
Introduction to Range Safety and Etiquette can be viewed on NSSF’s You Tube channel. The eight-and-a-half-minute video covers the following:
- Rules of gun safety
- Eye and ear protection
- Range rules
- Role of the range officer
- What to do when you get to the firing line
- Making your handgun safe
- Cease fire—who can call it, what it means and how you should respond
- Range courtesy, common sense and etiquette
The video is hosted by Barry Laws, a member of NSSF’s Association of Shooting Ranges Advisory Committee. He and his wife, Cynthia, own Open Range, the Crestwood, Ky.-indoor shooting facility where the video was filmed.
